Introverts Do It Better
I've always been introverted, and above average in the smarts department, but until now I only had years of As and high standardized test scores to back me up in my claim of intellectual superiority. I knew someday, some scientists would cook up something else for me to fuel my claims, and that day has come.
An article in today's USA Today says that "researchers using brain scans have found introverts have more brain activity in general, and specifically in the frontal lobes," which allows for better "retrieving [of] long-term memories, problem solving, introspection, complex thinking and planning."
While society outwardly favors the extroverted, social types, it appears as though nature favors the introvert. Apparently, the introvert's focus on the internal develops different parts of the brain and different abilities associated with them.
I'm introverted, and as such, I had a very non-standard childhood, and apparently, the same goes for all introverts. According to the article, introverted children read a lot, spend a lot of time alone, and feel drained after interacting with others. Naturally, this puts the average introvert quite handily in the outcast/nerd category during school.
Now, I wonder how many of us web nuts are introverts.
