I’ve been drawing and doodling again, and this is what my drawings have been looking like lately. This is what I drew on my note paper during meetings at work every day this week. it started as a doodle in a corner, and gradually overtook most of the page like a spreading bacteria. I’m going to keep exploring this style.

Got VMWare and Windows Vista installed on the Mac at work, and breathed a sigh of relief. Windows looks quite nice on the iMac’s 24″ monitor. I’ll be seeing more of that monitor this weekend, as I’ll be working on the weekend for (I think) the third weekend in a row. Basically, with the extra hours I’ve been pulling in, I do believe I see a camera upgrade in the very near feature. D90 kit, here I come!

For quite some time, I’ve gone to the usual haunts for online inspiration, like FFFFOUND or PSDTuts, and seen this kind of style of artwork and illustration all over. And lately, my job afforded me the opportunity to jump on the bandwagon, so I’ve been doing a lot of this stuff lately.

This started out as a photo I shot this morning, and an hour later it was this watercolor-looking piece. I’m working on getting the essence of these sorts of styles, digesting it, and eventually reinterpreting it in my own way. Everything has already been done before, so isn’t putting your own unique spin on it basically what art is?

Anyway, I like the way things are going.

Alright, this is the first time I’ve posted something for Project 365 that’s been really Photoshopped and not just color-corrected, etc. I’ve been doing stuff like this recently, that is, working on photo illustrations.

I can’t believe how easy this stuff is. The stuff I haven’t uploaded is a lot more complex, and has been a lot of fun to put together. I love trying out new techniques and making new things, and I haven’t done that in a while. But, now, my work is actually inspiring my artwork! Les Savy Fav, The Microphones, and Lamb all had similar album covers for their respective albums around the turn of the century.

I would say the Death Cab for Cutie album cover bears the closest resemblance to this one, made from a few apparently hand-cut photographs.

The artwork consists of several photos that were chopped up and then spliced into one, creating a colorful, line-filled collage. It’s especially apparent on the album’s backside, where all the band’s members show up in the same space.

Rather than cutting out the band’s members linearly, the artwork here uses squares, but does about the same thing as the Les Savy Fav cover. The album’s 2003 US release was much less interesting, showing only the band’s lamb “logo” on a blue background. Boring, and two years late. Thanks, amazon.co.uk.

I was just driving home this evening and rain and sunset mixed together to make everything cool and yellowish. I’d already taken more than enough photos at times like these, so I thought I’d do something a little different. Music is: Lamb – “Five”.

I shot a few bits of video during the drive from one friend’s home in Coral Gables to another friend’s home in South Miami. Here’s what came of it. Music: “Neuflex” by Two Lone Swordsmen.

I’m limited in my video capabilities by the fact that I don’t have an actual video camera, so I have to rely on the video function on my still camera. So, I started shooting some short clips of scenery and adding clips of music and ended up with “blips”.

After creating a few of them, I looked around to see if the Vimeo or Flickr communities had already started doing the same thing, but found nothing, so I created a new channel devoted to sub-30 second music/video “blips”.

This one has a simple story. I was working on putting up some new product for my job, and really dug the purple/green color scheme of this bike seat.

This one’s got tons of the screen door effect and pretty much requires viewing at full size to appreciate.

Still at the artwork in Photoshop… I started off with this piece, took out all the ribbony bits, and focused on turning the photos into this abstract piece here. I did add a few new ribbony bits that (purposely) make a screen-door effect.
