Day One Hundred Eighty Five | 1980s

Today, I was out for a jog at a local park, and that’s when/where I caught this shot. I saturated the heck out of it, but it really was almost this glowing and yellow and nice in real life. It reminded me of autumn in California, in the 1980s.

Shortly after I took this shot, it started pouring like crazy. Thunder, lightning, wind, and hail. I got drenched within seconds. Well, at least I tried to get out and get some exercise, rain be damned!

Day One Hundred Sixty Six | Downpour

Day One Hundred Sixty Six | Downpour

The rain caught me by surprise—rain in Florida has a tendency to go from zero to torrential downpour in an instant. I didn’t have an umbrella on hand and didn’t feel like getting drenched the moment I set foot outside my car, so I pulled over into a parking lot and sat in the car for about fifteen minutes until the downpour became a drizzle.

I started drawing again; I haven’t drawn anything in a long time. I also had a “eureka” moment for my portfolio layout, and I think I’m going to be able to make quick work of the portfolio layout very soon. After that it’s just a matter of choosing my best work and putting together a few case studies, and it’s ready to go.

Day One Hundred Thirty Seven | Rainweather

Day One Hundred Thirty Seven | Structure

Contrary to popular belief, Florida is not “the sunshine state”, at least, not for at least half the year. From about April until October, most afternoons looks something like this photograph.

While I did get more work done today, I still need to work on getting to sleep at a more reasonable hour than, well, 2 AM. And now that I’ve finally got some work to do, I think it’s time I get back on my personal projects as well. Why do some work when you can do a lot of work?

Day One Hundred Twenty Nine | Deluge

Wednesday, May 20th, 2009

Three days. It’s been raining here non-stop for three days now. After a while dealing with this deluge of rain, each day kind of merges into the next and time evaporates, and everything merges into a grayish muddle.

Despite that, I’ve been keeping busy, getting things done. Real things, money things, as opposed to all the home remodeling stuff I had to do to keep myself busy this past month or so.

Naturally, I still find the time to drive. And to shoot photos.

Day One Hundred Twenty Eight | Composite

Tuesday, May 19th, 2009

You’d think stormy weather leaves lots of great opportunities for photographs…and perhaps it does. But, since it started pouring 24/7 this week, I’ve been unable to get really interesting shots. It’s just too monotonous, too gray. So, I decided to screw around a little today and do a composite of two photos I shot today.

At any rate, I’ve continued to make progress in general. I e-mailed back the guy who had until last month been sub-contracting me work (before he up and vanished)… worked a little on this draft/mock up for another potential client…. and got my website back up and running… all during a pretty shitty, stormy day.

Day One Hundred Twenty Seven | High Contrast

Monday, May 18th, 2009

Looks like my leads are picking up steam. I worked on a comp for a second possible client today, while waiting for the response from the quote I sent out yesterday. If all goes well, I’ll go from nothing-to-do to too-much-on-my-place in no time. And having too much on my place is exactly where I want to be. That’s where I operate perfectly.

It’s been raining like crazy lately; summer has definitely arrived in Florida. Normally, it’s tough to be productive on a stormy day. Not today. Not at all. I’ve been getting things done quicker than I thought I was capable of. I’m still working on impulse.

Day Ninety Three | Reflections

Tuesday, April 14th, 2009

It’s been raining all day; it was one of those dreary, stormy days. Perfect indoors (while looking outside) weather. Fortunately, I had some freelance work to keep me indoors and occupied most of the day.

Honestly, I didn’t even get out until night. That’s when I shot this strange photo. It was the combination of reflections in the windshield and a lot of different light sources. At any rate, I’ve been little by little continuing to get my life back in shape.

This weekend, I’ll be going back to Miami for the first time in a long while. We’ll see if the visit makes me further regret having ever moved to Orlando.

Day Thirty Five | Raindrops

Sunday, February 15th, 2009

It’s been raining all day today, so I spent most of it sitting at Starbucks and working on my portfolio. And it’s starting to look good.

Whenever it rains (often) I like to take pictures of the raindrops. It didn’t work out so well in this photo, because you’d have to have the steady hand of a friggin’ sniper to manage a night shot without any blur at all.

Except, the blur made the raindrops look cooler than raindrops. So, I take that back.

Day Nine | Time to Think

Tuesday, January 20th, 2009

Day Nine. I went on a drive. It was early morning and everything was quiet, and I could think. I drove away from the lights and the cars and the city and ended up halfway to the middle of nowhere before I decided to turn back.

Florida rain, it appears (and disappears) without warning. It hit me when I was on an ill-lit back road, and I could barely see out the windshield, there was so much of it. And then it stopped, and by then I was almost back home. And I shot this photo.

I had my time alone. I had my time to think.
